One of my aims for 2015 was to spend a lot more time in the studio and try and improve my lighting and direction of subjects. Give me good light and fast lenses and I can conjure up a beautiful dreamy image but if the weather is not playing along I’m stuffed. Having more control over studio light and flash opens up a whole new set of possibilities that I’m eager to explore. Likewise working with established models like Rachelle guarantees success but working with new models or simply friends means you have to guide and cajole them into unnatural but stylish and elegant looking poses.
Given all this when Helena asked if we could arrange a shoot and I found the Laundry Studios and their infinity cove it seemed the perfect opportunity to experiment and try and learn a few new tricks. In this first selection the infinity cove was turned into the light source by firing a single bare head at one wall and using the reflected light. Really simple and works surprisingly well. Turns out Helena didn’t need too much directing either, she’s a natural and was a joy to work with. There was much giggling from both of us.
